Architectural Ceramic Assemblies Workshop

Architectural Ceramic Assemblies Workshop

Buffalo, NY – Building Blocks looks forward to this year’s Architectural Ceramic Assemblies Workshop. Architects, engineers, and artists collaboratively experiment with architectural ceramics at the workshop.

Chiefly, the teams research, model, prototype, and construct innovative terra cotta units. They explore cutting-edge ideas and new designs. Lastly, the teams present their discoveries to the AEC industry.

Boston Valley Terra Cotta hosts the workshop in combination with the University of Buffalo School of Architecture and Planning.

New Micro-Hotel

GFRC for New Micro-Hotel in South Beach

Miami Beach, FL – GT McDonald has contracted Building Blocks for Washington Square. As a result, we will furnish and install GFRC for the new micro-hotel in Miami’s South Beach. This project prioritizes efficient construction. Because of that, the glass fiber reinforced concrete (GFRC) is a unitized system. The masonry and window wall goes up in one piece. This accelerates the enclosure rate.

Washington Square is designed by Morris Adjmi Architects. Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe is the architect of record. The contemporary scalloped facade references the neighborhood’s Art Deco history. Therefore, it both fits in and stands out. Building Blocks recently completed a mockup of the glass fiber reinforced concrete facade for the project. The mockup highlights the facade design and demonstrates the unitized system. We are excited to bring this beautiful facade to South Beach.

1000 Museum

Panels Installed at 1000 Museum

Miami, FL – The first panels installed by Building Blocks for Zaha Hadid’s much anticipated 1000 Museum tower went up this week. Installation continues through the summer. It is scheduled to complete in September 2018. See here for more about our involvement in the project.

1000 Museum is the last building that Hadid herself worked on before her untimely death in 2016. The Zaha Hadid Architects studio posthumously saw her design to completion. Furthermore, it is a stellar example of the firm’s signature fusion of art and architecture. The futuristic “scorpion tower” on Biscayne Boulevard is certainly bound to become an icon of the Miami skyline.
